AN OPEN LETTER TO PET PARENTS IN CRESCENTA VALLEY: COVID-19 CONCERNS + PET SAFETY

Updated: Apr 7, 2020

These are strange times, that’s for sure. As a community, we are all being challenged with day-to-day stresses that many of us weren’t necessarily expecting. You may be home-schooling your kids, working from home instead of at your office, and trying to plan for meals when grocery stores have limited supplies. There's a lot of change happening!

An additional update regarding COVID-19 was announced on March 19, 2020 and it impacts our Crescenta Valley service area. Marin + I want to give you an update following Governor Newsom's "Stay at Home" order and more specifically, Mayor Garcetti's "Safer At Home" order and what exactly this means for Purrs & Grrrs and the "pets & their people" in our care.

As we shared previously, Purrs & Grrrs is still providing dog walking and pet sitting care to Crescenta Valley and the surrounding areas - and under Mayor Garcetti's "Safer At Home" order this type of business activity is still welcomed + allowed. According to Section 5 of the order announced by Mayor Garcetti, Purrs & Grrrs is considered an essential business due to the pet care we provide. Which is great because we happen to think so, too ;-) It's important to us that we are available to you should you + your furry family need the support. As we shared earlier, we are absolutely still providing pet care however we're not exactly continuing with business as usual.

Effective immediately, we are taking several additional precautions in order to keep you safe & ease any worry you may have, while also providing the necessary care for your pets. You can read more about this below. We are taking these precautions seriously.

Our team works incredibly hard, and as we have received multiple cancellations we've had many questions from our Purrs & Grrrs Family on how they can continue to support our family business even if previously scheduled visits have been cancelled, or in the event all pet care services must suspend for a period of time.

First, THANK YOU for supporting us and entrusting us to be part of your pet care team. If this is something you are interested in, here are a few options that could help to lessen the impact on our family business.

Pet Care Options:

  • Keep your scheduled visits, and allow us to help you as you manage other aspects of your new daily routine (following our safety guidelines as described below). If you now have kiddos at home and/or also need to work from home, having Purrs & Grrrs continue with your regular dog walks can be a great support for you while keeping up with your dog's routine + health needs.

  • Cancel some or all scheduled visits, but continue to pay for your cancelled services (we have had a few of our clients offer this, and we really appreciate it!).

  • Pre-purchase dog walking or pet sitting visits! We've added new Package Options in Precise Petcare so you can pre-purchase dog walks or pet sits to be used at a later date (within 90-days from 1st visit). We now offer 10 visit, 15 visit and 20 visit packages at 10% off! You can purchase a package now and pre-pay for your future dog walking or pet sitting needs.

  • Take advantage of our Concierge Services! Did you know we offer Pet Taxi, Pooper Scooper and Pet Errand services as well? We can take your pet to the groomer, veterinarian, pick up pet food or groceries, dry cleaning etc for you! Send us an email or give us a call to get any of these scheduled.for you.

  • Add a gratuity to your last invoice by submitting via Zelle or the CASH app.

If you have already cancelled your visits, but wish to make an adjustment, please contact us and can take care of that for you. We also understand these options are not feasible for everyone - please know we have no expectations whatsoever as we are all in this uncharted territory together!

Additional Safety Precautions:

This is of utmost importance to us. We are following guidelines as follows:

  • According to the CDC pets are not known to carry/transmit COVID-19 and are therefore safe to be around.

  • Maintaining a safe distance with other people as recommended, and avoiding crowds entirely.

  • Continuing to avoid handshakes or hugs/high fives etc with Purrs & Grrrs clients (I'm a hugger so this affects me more so than Marin)

  • Continuing to wash our hands and clean/sanitize the areas we come in contact with while at your home.

  • We'll now use our own dog leashes for dog walks so as not to touch your personal pet supplies. We generally use our own Poop Bags as well and will now do so exclusively. We use Slip Leads while working on any leash training, and will use our Slip Leads when walking your pups for the foreseeable future. These are our leashes of choice - we highly recommend you pick one up and give it a try!

  • Curb-Side or Yard Pick-Up for Dog Walks. As an option, you can absolutely have us greet your dog in your backyard or meet us in front of your home to hand your pup over to us for their dog walk if you'd like to take extra precautions about having visitors inside your home. If this is something you'd like to do, please leave a Visit Note in Precise Petcare so we know where to meet your pup for their walk.

Safety Precautions We Ask of You:

  • If you are home and would like us to pick up your pup inside your house as usual, please greet us at your entryway if possible so we aren't walking too far into your home.

  • Clean the areas of your home we work in (door knobs, sink handles etc). If you're looking for some great people + pet friendly cleaning products, we love Branch Basics. You can check them out here and get $10 off all products! (excluding their Trial Kit).

  • Please have cleaning supplies ready for us to use (paper towels, soap etc) and kept in one central place - the kitchen or entry area are great options. We'll have ours on hand in our cars as well.

  • If you are sick and/or have been recently given the flu or pneumococcal shot, please resume pet care when you are healthy/14+ days have passed from your vaccination. This is to give time for any possible adverse reactions such as fever, nausea, fatigue etc to pass and to keep our team healthy as well!

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly with questions or if there is anything else we can provide.Thank you again for helping us to do work that we love every day. We hope you and your families continue to be well and we look forward to resuming our regular schedules sooner than later!

Sending you all so much health, peace + love!
